Most of the best things about the new revolution that is happening in the world of technology is mostly happening in the cell phone arena. We have turned our cell phones from little communication devices, to full on workstations. Now, you are able to carry a device that has the power of a computer from a few years ago in your pocket. The amount of things that can be done with this kind of power is extraordinary. Some of the phones leading the way in this smart phone revolution are phones based on the android operating system. With the smooth touch screen interface, you are able to do multiple things on the phone while you are away from the office. This is what makes phones such as these, great to travel with. Let’s go over a couple of reasons why you would do well using an android phone while you travel to distant places.

The first reason why you would want an Android phone for your traveling needs, is the service providers problem. Where the iPhone only allows phones to be legally connected to the ATT network, with an Android, you can use several different service providers. To get similar functionality out of the iPhone, you must have a phone that is jail broken. The Android phone providers also offer great network coverage for your data plans. You can access the internet no matter how far out you are. Where ATT has gotten complaints, especially with their data usage in major cities, if the carrier that you are with is not satisfactory, then you can just switch to another one.

Another reason why the Android phone is good for traveling, is the ability to do work on it. You have at your disposal, multiple applications that you can use to get work done on the Android phone while you travel. If your job consist of a lot of data, then the Android phone would be perfect. These phones are especially made to consume, manipulate and create data. You wouldn’t have to lug around a huge laptop wherever you went. You could use the laptop at the hotel that you are staying in, and then use the phone when you are on the go. That would make things a whole lot easier.

The last reason why you should use the Android phone for when you travel is the entertainment factor. Not only can you watch movies and listen to music on the phone, you can play high quality 3D level games on it as well. The 3D game engine on the newer Android phones are way higher than any other phone out there right now. Again, there is no reason why you should have to pull out your heavy laptop, anytime you want be entertained while traveling. You can whip out your phone and you will not disturb your fellow passengers that are sitting next to you.

As we said before, there are a lot of reasons why you would want to use an Android phone when you are taking a long trip. We have given you a few to think about. Once you start to use the Android phone we are sure that you can think of a whole lot more.

Apps. Every time you surf the web, you are bound to see the word apps. Where once an application meant something that you installed on your desktop computer, it is now an extra piece of the framework for whatever gadget or web site that you are using. When you log into facebook, you can install applications into your account. The same goes with myspace and even Twitter has an ecosystem around it built up off of third party applications. But the device that brought it home for the cell phone market is the IPhone. One of the biggest reasons why people fall in love with the iPhone was the amount of third party applications that it offered. Now, when Google released their new Android operating system, they made sure that it had an App store that went with it.

When you visit the App store, you will see software that offers a whole lot of different functionalities. Some of the functionalities are simple, while others may be very complex. But the one thing that they all do, is to bring attention to the person who made the application. Especially if it turns out to be popular. If you have a business, you can utilize this fact to help promote your business to potential new customers. Especially if you make a popular application within your industry. Something like that would give you instant status in your industry and the name of your company would be on the lips of everyone.
The first thing that you would need to do, is to get an idea of what you are looking for. Do you want an app that is simple. It may only exist for no other purpose but to have your brand name out there. Or do you want to develop an app that has extensive functionality. Make the tool useful, so that it may even be able to finance itself after it gains in popularity. So after you make your mind up in what you are looking for, you need to find someone to create the app for you. They might be an individual developer or a team of people. No matter what, make sure that you check their references to make sure that they are good. You do not want an app on the market that is non functioning. The bad word of mouth will not help, no matter if the app was free or not. It will still have your name on it and represent your company. The hit you take may be small, but why take a hit when you can bypass it altogether. After they create the application, now you must decide on how you are going to promote it. Will it be an app that you charge for or will it be something that you give away for free. You have to decide which is best for your business.

As you see, a Android application could really help promote your business. If the app becomes popular, it and your business will blow up.

The amount of applications and games made for Android phones increases, seemingly, minute by minute. Even so, there are still not many multiplayer games available for the Android Operating System, but there are some. We’ve managed to find three that we think you will like.

Sketch Online is loosely based on Pictionary. It is played in a chat room. In the beginning, you need to choose a screen name, pick a picture, and then choose a room. The rooms are partitioned by language and topics like animals, objects, etc.

Each player gets an item to sketch as the game progresses. You can choose your brush size, colors, and several tools that you can use to create an image. You can even wipe your screen and start over, if you make a mistake. The answer to your sketch is hidden until the round ends. When other players are sketching, you get your chance to guess. If you guess correctly, you and the sketch artist get points. The game moves along with players taking turns sketching and guessing.

Sketch Online for Android phones is free, with ads, or you can pay $1.50 for the ad-free version.

Cestos is a multiplayer marble game for your Android phone. Each player controls the speed and direction of their marble. Cestos features different maps, along which your marble will travel. There are obstacles and hazards associated with each map. Once the players have locked in the direction and momentum of their marbles, they are all set loose simultaneously. The result is chaotic and highly entertaining. Cestos is an easy game to play, but there is enough of a strategic element to keep it interesting. The more players you can get onboard at once, the better the round. You can download Cestos free of charge for your Android phone.

Parallel Kingdoms is a multi-player role playing game. The exceptional feature of Parallel Kingdoms is that it is played by overlapping real time Google maps. Parallel Kingdoms is played at your physical location. Your locality is constantly being updated from your GPS position. Your character can move in a small radius without you having to physically change location, but if you want your character to move farther, you will have to get up and go to the location. The game allows players to collect different items on the map and claim Kingdoms. It is free to download.

Gone are the days of the Apple ruling the Smartphone application market, with its App Store. Google ensures it’s foothold in the competitive market with its own Android Market, churning out one great application after the other. With a massive range from useful utilities, addons, games, entertainment and serious business niches, the Android application range is absolutely outstanding. What makes these apps so great? One word: Simplicity. Let’s have a look at some of the most widely used Android applications out there.

1. Ringdroid – Make Your Own Ringtones

RingDroid

One amazing, intuitive and an addictive application designed exclusively for the Android platform, Ringdroid is a ringtone composing application, which allows you to mix and match your own tunes within seconds. An extremely simple, non-intimidating interface along with a great set of features, the Ringdroid is a must have for all Android users.

2. Google Listen – Create Personalized Podcasts

Google Listen - Android Apps

If you’re an avid podcast audiophile, then you know how much it pricks to be on the move without the latest updates from your sources. Google Listen allows you to carry your podcasts on the move, letting you listen to the latest and hottest updates out there. The application also allows the user to save the episodes to the phone itself, allowing you to listen to them at leisure when you get time. A must have application for the podcast fanatic.

3. WaveSecure – Anti-Theft Application

WaveSecuer - Android App

If you’re prone to losing your phones, WaveSecure helps you to retrieve it easily and helps to keep your data intact and secure from malignant attacks. With features like Remote Lock-Down, this clenches up all the info within the phone, WaveSecure maybe the ultimate solution to retrieving and securing data on lost phones.

4. 3DCoche – Dude, HERE’s my Car!

3dcoche - Android App

Lost your car in a huge parking lot? Can’t remember where you parked your car last? No need to go “Dude, Where’s My Car?” 3DCoche will help you find your car, faster than you can say its name. Using the application is ridiculously easy. Once you park your car, fire up the application and save your current location.
5. DocumentsToGo – Carry Your Office Suite With You!

DocumentsToGot - Android App

Of all the applications in the Android Market, one that stands out and appeals to the businessman on the move is the DocumentsToGO. Expanding the potential of the Android phone to include an entire office suite onto the portable device is an amazing offer. From Microsoft supported word, powerpoint and excel documents to Adobe’s PDF format, it’s all supported on this application.

6. Evernote – Note Taking Was Never this fun!

Evernote - Android App

Android phones usually don’t come with a default note taking application. One requires manually downloading and installing a 3rd party software application for this purpose. So, if you’re going to do so, why not get an application which synchronizes various notes, files and photos across various platforms? This application is still in beta, but can kick some serious ass.

7. Flixster – Movies on the Go!

Flixster - Android App

Flixster, well known for its amazing movie rental service, had ogled all the iPhone users and now it’s Android’s turn to do the same for its own audience. Flixster Movies has helped millions of users figure out and find brand new movies they would like to watch on their phones. The best part of this application is that it’s FREE. Users can connect to Facebook directly from the app itself and share their views regarding the last movie they saw.

8. FxCamera – Fundroid your Camera

FxCamera - Android app

Bored of the default camera application on your phone? Need something new and fun to play around with? Well, FxCamera should keep you entertained for quite some time. Stuffed with loads of features such as ToyCam, Polandroid, Fisheye, SymmetriCam, Warhol and normal modes, the application makes taking picture a hell lot worth the effort. You’d rather want to be behind the lens rather than infront of it, once you see the app. If your phone has flash, this application will support that as well. So, if you’re a shutter bug, this application is meant for you, hands down.

9. Twidroid – THE Android Twitter Application

Twidroid - Android App

Being the only perfected Twitter application for the Android platform, Twidroid, has an amazing set of features, which will keep the Twitter Addict on his finger tips 24×7 (pun intended). There are two versions, the free one and the paid one. The paid one has a lot more features than you can ever want, including the Bit.ly short URL-ing support, multi-account support, and shaking phone to refresh the page, etc. The application is an amazing alternative to its competitors, with a fresh, clean and simple interface t work with. Get it NOW!

10. Wapedia – Wikipedia Unleashed on the Android

Wapedia - Android App

Wapedia is one of the most fastest and most intuitive applications designed for the Android platform. With access to over 3 million articles over the internet, Wapedia gives you access to almost all the pages from Wikipedia and tons of other Wiki’s over the internet right to your phone. It’s quite fast, even on simple 2G networks, along with multiple language support as well. The application also shows up featured content from the wikis such as the latest news and trends. A must have android application for the general knowledge enthusiasts.

That quite well about rounds up the never-so-ending list of gorgeous and mind boggling applications designed exclusively for the Android platform. Indeed, the true iPhone competitors are now surfacing, thanks to the Google’s Android OS, which helps to bridge two ends of a horizon, both software and hardware alike. If you don’t own an Android phone, don’t call yourself as a tech-enthusiast individual. Keep your eyes peeled for more such roundups of great Android applications on this site.

When looking back on Motorola’s success (or shall we say, the lack thereof), it is plain to see that they needed to make something happen. Yes, they broke precious ground by giving us the RAZR, but since then, they have very little to show for their work. They have delivered a few thoughtful pieces of technology over the past couple of years, but to be honest, it looked to some like Motorola was taking a back seat to companies that it used to contend quite ferociously with.

But, as you probably did as well, I sat up on the edge of my seat to see the first commercial featuring the Droid. It was just a teaser, but my technological appetite was already craving it. In the commercials, you see a device that goes beyond normal smart phones. And, as you can also see, Motorola has teamed up with some very worthy allies in Verizon and Google. Verizon is one of the most liked phone networks in the world, and Google’s Android platform is breaking new ground every day, making Windows mobile fight for every last breath to stay alive. But, even when compared to the Blackberry and the iPhone, two of the leading smart-phones on the market, the Droid is intriguing enough to turn heads.

But, the big question remains - does the Droid have what it takes to beat out the competition, skyrocketing Motorola back to the top after years in the shadow? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure - when three companies of this size and with this kind of talent team up together, you know that something big is about to happen and that is exactly what the Droid is - it is big! It might be a small device, but I guarantee that if you do not already own one, you drool over them every time you see one - is that enough to put Motorola back on top? I guess only time will tell for sure….

Does it ever seem that you cannot find a Mobile Broadband provider that you can actually trust? Just recently, it was said that findings suggested that poor 3G coverage by Nexus One was a cause for many complaints. There are those who are saying that T-Mobile, one of the biggest mobile phone companies, has the smallest 3G footprint, in the entire four U.S. Nationals! If these companies can draw headlines like this, then what are you going to do about your mobile broadband? Do you trust one of these Goliaths, or do you go with the little guy?

Well, it may not be as bad as you think. You need to find someone you can trust, though, to give you the real information on who is providing good mobile broadband coverage and who is not. Information is power, and since we are living in the new information age, why not start by getting the best broadband service that you can get? It is senseless to waste money on dead spots. After all, would you buy a car if it would only run “in select areas”? That is completely absurd. For how much you pay for most mobile broadband, they should be able to give you the coverage you need. I could understand dead spots if you were paying next to nothing for mobile broadband - but this is rarely, if ever, the case.

But when it comes to mobile broadband, you are not left to your own devices. There are Websites out there that can help you choose the mobile broadband that is best for you, and they are the Websites that should get your attention.

Making your own apps for a mobile phone is a very appealing concept. Of course, not all platforms allow this type of thing, which is why when Google released the Android operating system and platform, third party app creators threw happy fits of hysteria! Google Android certainly does deliver all of the goodies that one would expect on a platform that allows the creation of apps but I believe that Google has even taken it a step further by allowing users access to key Google libraries, such as Google maps.

If you do not fully understand the power behind what Google has given us as mobile phone users and app creators, then let me just expand upon this point for a moment. By giving us access to programs like Google maps, Android can allow us to create amazing apps that are geographically accurate and up to date! Gone are the days where addresses and places were exactly that - addresses and so called places. With Google maps, you can bring up a location right on the map, click on them, and gather all kinds of information for them. It is also through maps like this that you are able to scan items and find them in stores and then find the location of the stores right on Google maps in your phone!

The possibilities here are endless, which is why Android needs to be praised for giving us such flexibility to be creative. It is all a part of open-sourcing, and it is still open ground! Who knows how far it will go, and how much better it will get. There are so many good ideas right now floating around, that is it hard for everyone to follow them all. But just wait, in time, open source programs like Android won’t be so rare, and we will wonder why someone had not thought of it before and it will all be thanks to a little program we call Google Android.

We all know that Google is fighting hard for handset OS supremacy. So far Apple has held its own in the smartphone world with the iPhone and iPhone 3GS models, but this year the smartphone arena is set to get a whole lot fiercer with a number of manufacturers jumping on the Android Bandwagon. The highly anticipated Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is expected to show Android 2.1 in all its glory. You will be able to find Sony Ericsson X10 deals later this year in the UK.

And let’s not forget about Motorola. The American giant has risen from its noughties slumber to suggest that it can compete on the world’s smartphone stage, introducing the latest of its creations the Motorola Backflip. Motorola Backflip deals will also be available Q2 in the UK. The Backflip really does build on the strengths of the Droid and takes social media to another level.

Then there is the original partner for the Google Android project, HTC. The latest announcement regarding an Android phone in the Nexus one has received mixed reviews, mainly surrounding the cancellation cost in the states. Let’s just hope that when we can get hold of the Google Nexus one on contract in the UK that we don’t have to pay the ridiculous cancellation charges that an otherwise good phone has been associated with in the US.

The new Droid phone is definitely a step up for phones that utilize the Google Android system, and it is definitely a phone that has gotten everyone’s attention. But, does the phone really live up to the hype? Well, that is up to you to decide, but here are some quick thoughts on the phone after a general going over.

First of all, the shape and size of the phone are nice - especially considering the fact that the phone includes a full, real QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard is a bit awkward to use at first, but you quickly adapt to it with a bit of practice. The phone is nice to look at, but the real fun begins when you turn it on.

The resolution on the phone is brilliant - needless to say, this one is a looker! You will see on this phone a screen that is definitely above any of it’s Android predecessors and one that definitely competes with others on the market. As far as performance goes, the Droid can seem a bit stuttery at times - though this is easily made up for by the speed and quickness with which other functions are performed. Also, the camera takes decent stills, but what is really amazing about the Droid is the video that it can take! You will be amazed at the high quality of the video that you can capture on this phone! Another great feature on this phone is the audio. Built in, on board audio, from conference calls to music, is very good! It is undistorted, clear, and very pleasant to the ears. Some of this is certainly due to Verizon’s network, but Motorola must have put some serious effort into it as well!

All in all, this phone is a keeper! Two thumbs up for a winner from Motorola!
